...and how did he get his powers?

My theory: Amon (who was known as Yukon at one point) threatened Republic City 42 years before the start of "Korra." I believe he was a bender, and from his name, a water bender. When a confrontation between Aang and Yukon ensued, Aang took his bending away. Yukon escaped from being imprisoned, and Aang made the mistake of believing that with no bending, Yukon could not hurt anyone anymore. After all, former Fire Lord Ozai had never hurt anyone after his bending had been taken away. However, Yukon was furious, and tried to understand how his bending was taken away. In the process, he went to the spirit world, where I believe he met Koh, who gave him the ability to take other people's bending away. If he couldn't bend, neither could anyone else, especially the Avatar.

As for what happened to Zuko's mom... I have no idea! Bryan and Mike are TROLLS!

This is my theory! No stealing!

Thank you, but yeah, I honestly don't believe that Amon has anything to do with the original series. (I'd like to see Koh being involved, but that's starting to look less likely now. lol!)

I'm not much for theories, but here is a thought I had.

We are well aware that most of the people from the original series had kids, Toph, Aang, Katara, Zuka (said to have a daughter), etc. However, we don't know about Sokka. He was paired with Suki, so we know that it would be logical for him to have children. Sokka also appeared in Korra's first flashback to the scene in which Aang and Toph are present (as adults).

There is potential for Sokka or his children (this is alluding to Amon being one of his children) to be in touch with the spirit world as I believe it was Yui? Became the moon spirit, and Sokka had a thing with her. Assuming Sokka was killed when Aang dealt with the incident 40 years ago (or however long it was), and potentially sokka's children also killed...or thought to be killed, could allude to something like this.

I don't know, I was listening to a podcast that had some other interesting ideas as well.
Bahah.

That's an interesting theory. From the flashbacks, we know Toph and Sokka are involved in it. The guy I'm assuming is Yukon, he looks like Zhao. At least I think he does.

I like the idea that someone TOOK his bending away, that he wasn't born a nonbender, and he doesnt want anyone esle to bend if he cant
But i dont think hes the same person who threatened Republic city all those years ago, he'd have to be at least 65 and his hands are too...nonwrinkly... i think hes younger

Either way, I truly believe that Amon and Yukon are connected in some way. In fact, there's hardly a doubt in my mind about it.

By the way, Pakku was close to 80 and his hands were not very wrinkly. How do I know he was close to 80? Kanna was in the Southern Water Tribe when the raids started 60 years before Aang was released from the iceberg. She had to be at least 16 at the time, and Pakku was older then her. So Amon still could be Yukon. :)

Still doesn't mean that he is of course.

I like the part about Koh, there is now way that story about the fire bender is real. This is a great theory for his motivation, Aang taking his bending. However he's probably not Yakone because if he was he'd be in his 70s.

And who says 70 year old men can't kick butt?! :) I do see your point, but think about Iroh and Pakku. They were pretty old and could still kick some rear end. And don't get me started on King Bumi. Hama is another example.

The reason I believe that Yukon is Amon is because it would keep with the tradition of new Avatars dealing with past Avatar's mistakes. Aang had to deal with not only Roku's mistakes, but Kyoshi's as well, the war and the Dai Li respectively.

My theory was he was either someone who trained under the avatar or who was scarred by fire benders
Having lost everything went on a journey. Hating the fire benders and eventually the avatar who did nothing to stop it.
I also thought that he was either a water tribe member or a earth bender.
As far as how he got the ability I have no idea, because the question still stands. How would he got there? How would he learn?
It is possible he researched it or got in the the tower of wisdom where the owl spirit lies.

Well, if you recall, Iroh visited the spirit world. It was mentioned by Admiral Zhao during the invasion at the North Pole. There are probably many ways to enter the spirit world. It's also possible he was called there by Koh himself.

That still leaves the question of why?
Also im curious. I remember him saying
"The spirits have told me that the avatar has failed them" or something like that.
What could that mean?

If your question is why Koh would teach Amon energy/spirit bending, that kind of ties into your second question. In fact, it was that quote that lead me to believe Koh is involved. Which spirit have we met that holds the most animosity toward the Avatar? Especially when the Avatar is from the Water Tribes? Koh. Also, even if Koh holds no direct grudge to Korra in particular, that doesn't mean he would turn down a chance to mess with the mortal world. We already have evidence that he enjoys messing with mortals after what happened between him and Avatar Kuruk.

It could also be just general rhetoric from Amon to get people to join his cause. I don't know, this is all just a theory. :)

I can't deny what your saying is true, but at this point I don't want to say anything for certain, for the simple fact that there isn't enough information regarding Amon's background and the energy/spirit bending linage.

Also question. Not that they wouldn't, but do all spirits know how to take away bending?

Side topic: I think its stupid that he would try to take bending off of the face of the earth. So many things in that era relays on bending.

Neither do I. I'm just taking what I've heard so far and trying to interpret it.

As for all spirits being able to take away bending, I don't see why not. It was probably the spirits themselves who gave humanity the ability in the first place.

Re Side topic: I agree. Human nature has a bad habit of looking at all the bad something could do, rather then see it for all the good it actually does. I mean, who in their right mind would give up Pro Bending?! That's a sport I would actually be interested in watching if I couldn't play it! :lmao:

True, and another thing I just remembered was that when Aing used that power, he had to fight off the fire lords spirit, so shouldn't someone of great faith and well-power(AKA a fully realized avatar) be able to counter it with no problem?

Re side topic: I agree and I paid close attention to esp 4 and they were using fire benders and in factory's and earth benders as cops. Not to mention that so far Ive heard fire bender did this, fire bender did that. If the localized crime ring is centered around fire benders and there coworts why not aim for them? Earth benders can mold the land and gardens, water benders are a must for healing, air benders or nomads. I see no point in them taking everyone down.
